CASE STUDIES
The Cambria Group invests in a variety of types of transactions, from leading outright acquisitions in which Cambria and management are the sole investors, to providing infusions of equity capital to facilitate the growth of a business, to taking minority ownership positions alongside like-minded private equity firms. In all cases, Cambria’s principals have made significant personal investments in the companies and worked closely with the management teams to build the businesses and their value.
Described briefly below are summaries of Cambria’s involvement with three of our portfolio companies.
DSA/Phototech
Cambria acquired DSA from its founder in 1999 and has worked with the Company and its management on a variety of initiatives, focusing most recently on expanding the Company’s product lines and pursuing new vertical markets, as well as effecting significant value-enhancing initiatives in the capital structure. Cambria’s principals recruited an outstanding CEO with strong industry experience, assembled a strong board to guide the Company’s evolution, and have acted as active sounding boards for the management team.
Crossbow Technology, Inc.
Cambria backed Crossbow after extensive discussions with the Company’s founder and CEO, and an exhaustive series of customer interviews. Cambria helped recruit an extraordinary board of executives, each of whom invested personally in the Company, and has worked with the Company to refine its strategy and provide introductions to potential customers and partners. Crossbow has grown more than fifteen-fold since Cambria’s investment and is solidly profitable.
Cobblestone Golf Group
Cambria joined Brentwood Associates in making an investment in Cobblestone and took an active board role. Over six years of involvement, we helped guide an active acquisition effort, evolution of the Company’s strategy, and capital initiatives that helped build the Company from a single course to a portfolio of 30 properties at the time of its sale for a price of nearly $400 million.
